In fact, if you've ever been to hospital and been put on an AIRVO device, then this video is really for you because as of now, the myAIRVO platform is available for in-home use. The upside to this is it can greatly reduce the amount of time that you have to spend in hospital. The quality of life aspects of using this device in home, in between hospital visits, can greatly improve quality of life and I'm going to show you how we do that.
So what is an AIRVO? Well, an AIRVO is an in-home humidifier that helps add moisture, humidity and flow to our airway. So basically it re-hydrates our airways. Common symptoms that the myAIRVO 2 has direct control over relieving is a dry, irritable cough, the inability for the body to clear the secretions on the chest, shortness of breath, frequent chest infections and hospital re-admissions as well. We know that dry conditions, especially if you're using supplemental oxygen, which dry out the airways, can cause exacerbation. We know for a fact that our airway needs 37 degrees (Celsius) and 100% relative humidity to maintain optimal mucociliary clearance. This is the body's ability to flush out the phlegm and the gunk that's in our lungs. This device allows us to replicate that environment and allows the body to clear any phlegm, it can reduce any dead space to make it easier to breathe so breathing is not so much of a strain, it re-hydrates and moisturises the airways to stop our airways from losing their elasticity and it also allows us to sleep better and have more energy as well. So the bottom line is the value that you get out of an AIRVO when you're admitted to hospital, can now be brought home with you so you've got this in your own environment.
