Sleep Therapy ResMed AirFit F20 Mask Features
The AirFit F20 Full Face Mask comes with a multitude of key features that can be customised to your sleep therapy plan:
Comfort and Ease of Use: The flexible frame is designed to support the widest range of facial types while maintaining a comfortable seal fit. It allows for quick fitting and removal with it's easy-to-use magnetic clips that can be removed and adjusted to your liking. At your leisure, the forehead support can be removed to support clear vision for reading or watching TV in bed for optimal comfort levels.
InfinitySeal™ Silicone Cushion: The InfinitySeal™ cushion technology features specially-designed "infinity" loops that vary in thickness levels that are to reduce blowout, accommodate patient movement and provide support to the sides of the nose. This silicone cushion adjusts to movement and positions throughout the night ensuring a good night's sleep.
QuietAir™ Elbow: The QuietAir™ technology is a new, innovative diffuser that makes it an extremely quiet mask that can comfortably fit anyone. It features a small multidirectional opening over a widespread area that breaks up exhaled air so that it is spread out lightly at a low pressure. The quick-release, flexible elbow allows you to get up at night and disconnect without removing the mask.
Improved Seal: ResMed studies have shown that, when comparing against the AirFit™ F10 full face mask, 86% of all users tested prefer the seal of AirFit F20.
Flexible Frame: The flexible frame designed by ResMed will leave you completely satisfied as it delivers breadth of fit while adding comfort. The exceptional fit of the AirFit F20 is paired with it's under-the-eye frame design which provides visual freedom and minimal facial contact. You can see and do more, and feel great and not have to worry about changing your sleep habits.
If the full face mask style is not to your liking, you can opt for a mask where it does not cover the nose but instead sits underneath the nose. These nasal cradle masks sit just underneath the nose and are said to be less invasive. Consider these masks:
What is the difference between AirFit F20 and AirTouch F20?
The major difference between the two ResMed masks and their designs pertain directly to their respective cushions.
While the AirFit F20 has been designed with a silicone cushion that is soft, durable and easy to clean, the AirTouch F20 features a memory foam cushion that is plush, ultra-soft and engineered to contour to a patient's unique facial shapes and structure.
How long does an AirFit F20 mask last?
To ensure the highest quality CPAP therapy, ResMed recommends that you replace the mask cushion every month, the frame system every three months and the headgear every six months.
The mask components should not be washed and should be replaced.
What is the difference between a nasal cradle mask and a full face mask?
A nasal pillow mask rests at the entrance of your nostrils and covers the nose. A full face mask covers the nose and mouth.
Hi, I'm Bryce Perron from CPAP Direct. In this video I'm going to show you the new AirFit F20 full face mask by ResMed
The AirFit F20 is a really good hybrid between the AirFit F10 that ResMed have had just recently and the old Mirage Quattro, which is probably the most famous full face mask that ResMed have ever done. They brought in some extra key funky factors like the magnets to hold the mask on and they've done a lot of work on the seal to get this to fit very well. I'm a big fan of this mask and I don't like full face masks at all. In my opinion, they're our last resort but this is one of the only full face masks that I can actually sleep with all night. I'm going to show you how this works. I'm going to open the box. Now, firstly, when you get the F20, if it doesn't come in a box like this, then you haven't got the real product. ResMed has spent a lot of time and money boxing it up to make it feel nice just like the Apple products. We open this up and slide this out. You'll see it's very well-packaged.
So one of the first things that you'll notice with this mask is that, again, there is nothing on the forehead, so there's no T-piece up there. You can wear your glasses with it if you're reading, there's quite a big opening gap there where the elbow goes in the front which means you can remove that if you need to go to the bathroom without taking the mask off your face. And they use magnets. The magnets are great for people that have arthritis in the fingers and they find it hard to use hooks or clips to get the mask on and off because the magnets find their way to the target very easily. So once it's set right, it's very easy to take on and off. We'll pull the cushion out and you'll be able to see the amount of work that's gone into this seal is incredible.
They've made it quite soft up the top here and also just underneath the lips. Some of the feedback we had on the AirFit F10 was that it was really harsh on the bridge of the nose and people would end up with red marks on their face. So ResMed have spent a lot of time and money investigating this and they wanted to build a mask that had a really good seal but didn't have to be tight, didn't have to be really strapped on to get a good seal. And they've done a great job with the soft sections at the top and the bottom of the mask there. So they sit on the mask, sit on the face, very snug,
there's plenty of fluency there and buoyancy, so the mask can be quite mobile and still maintain a really, really good seal. I personally noticed when I used the mask that it felt quite harsh around the sides because they're much firmer than on the bridge of the nose and underneath. But then again, the mask probably needed time to wear into my face as well. So that's a great design. Easy to wash clips in. I'll put the mask on so you can see how it sits on my face. That's how I would have the mask normally.
So only criticisms that I have on this mask would firstly be that the headgear is very, very small. Now this is a new release for ResMed, so they may release the mask with a bigger headgear. Some of the people we've tried to fit this mask on haven't been able to put it on properly because the headgear has been so small. And the other thing is that you need to undo the Velcro to pull the headgear off to wash the mask. This means that obviously it needs to be refitted after you've washed the headgear. The elbow is quite big and bulky. Probably didn't need to be that big, but still a nice design for somebody that has removed the elbow to go to the bathroom because there's plenty of breathing space through that hole there. But overall, as far as the mask functionality wise, it's a beautiful mask, very comfortable and very modern and very light. So we're a big fan of this mask, and I think it's going to do great things in the market.
