What is the AirSense 11?
The entire collection of CPAP devices from the ResMed AirSense line is extremely popular amongst sleep apnea patients due to its advanced technology and reliable performance.
The ResMed AirSense 11 is available in two different models, the AutoSet and the Elite. Both models come equipped with ResMed's latest software, making it the most advanced and innovative device out of all of ResMed CPAP machines.
AirSense 11 AutoSet
The AirSense 11 AutoSet has an exclusive Autoset feature that automatically adjusts the airflow pressure levels on a breath-by-breath basis. It also includes the for Her algorithm, a gender-specific therapy mode. Read more on the AirSense 11 Autoset here.
AirSense 11 Elite
The AirSense 11 Elite is a fixed-pressure CPAP machine, delivering a consistent pressure depending on your pressure settings, which are normally set by your doctor. Read more on the AirSense 11 Elite here.
CPAP device benefits for Sleep Apnea Therapy:
CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) therapy is a common and effective form of sleep apnea treatment, for those who struggle with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), a condition characterised by repeated interruptions in breathing during sleep due to the collapse of the airway.
CPAP therapy is a form of therapy pressure. It is essentially when your CPAP machine takes air from the room, filters it and pressurises it, sending the air through the tube and into your mask. The air pressure is used to maintain the airway throughout sleep, mitigating apnea occurrences and improving the overall quality of sleep.
What is New with the AirSense 11?
Not only does the new AirSense 11 come with a more modern design, but there are many other key features worth noting.
Added Bluetooth Integration and Cellular Connectivity
The newly incorporated Bluetooth integration and cellular modem feature enables secure automated data transmission from the device to the myAir app, allowing the user to conveniently access their therapy data and exchange it with their healthcare professional.
ResMed myAir App
The myAir app is a user-friendly online support program designed with the purpose of empowering users to actively keep up with their sleep therapy. It offers interactive coaching as well as the option to monitor and view nightly data. With the AirSense 11, users can benefit from enhanced access to myAir's functionalities, including the Personal Therapy Assistant and Care Check-In, which will be elaborated on in this article.
Care Check-In Feature
This functionality serves as an integrated coaching program tailored to offer the CPAP user with personalised medical guidance based on their responses to survey queries like "How fatigued did you feel this week?" and "What concerns you the most?". Additionally, it provides users with motivational advice, self-help solutions, and timely follow-ups for optimal utilisation of their CPAP therapy. With user consent, their detailed data can be shared with healthcare providers through AirView, a remote monitoring platform exclusively designed for healthcare professionals, facilitating close monitoring of patient conditions and accurate medical assistance.
Personal Therapy Assistant
This function offers voice-guided video instructions, aiding and directing users in the setup process of their new CPAP device, assisting users in resolving typical user concerns, and offering a Test Drive option, where users can test their apnea therapy before they get started. This feature can be accessed by users through the myAir app.
AutoSet for Her
Due to physiological differences, women often require different airflow levels during CPAP therapy compared to men. This is why, previously, the AirSense 10 required a separate "For Her" CPAP machine. However, the AirSense 11 effectively operates as a dual-function machine by incorporating a female-specific therapy mode within the device, accessible through the CPAP machine settings, enabling both genders to utilise the machine.
The ResMed AirSense 10 is fitted with a basic knob for menu navigation that operates through clicking. In contrast, the AirSense 11, boasts a full-colour touchscreen with a more streamlined menu, making it even easier to navigate and operate the device.
Additionally, the device comes with an integrated ambient light sensor that automatically adjusts the screen's brightness to match the room's lighting levels, and it also conveniently turns off the screen automatically, adding to its user-friendly attributes. This makes the AirSense 11 a great option for light sleepers who are easily bothered by the amount of light present in their bedroom during the night.
The AirSense 11 will autonomously detect any software updates and download them from a secure ResMed server, ensuring that users have access to the latest technology and firmware at all times, for maximum efficiency and performance.
Is the ResMed AirSense 11 Worth It?
Although the AirSense 10 remains a highly efficient device for sleep therapy, the new AirSense 11 offers users a much more personalised and convenient experience through the incorporation of new features such as Care Check-In and Personal Therapy Assistant, while also being compatible with both men and women.

How to disable humidification on ResMed AirSense 11?
Although the AirSense 11 is equipped with a built-in humidifier, the CPAP machine can most definitely be used without the humidifier. Simply slot the Side Cover where the humidifier chamber would usually be installed, turn off humidification in the My Options menu and use the device as normal.
The Side Cover will, however, need to be purchased separately.
Does ResMed AirSense 11 have a heated tube?
If the heated tubing on your AirSense 11 is used, the Climate Control feature will be activated, maintaining the set temperature and humidity levels while the machine is in use, in order to prevent dryness in the nose and mouth areas.
How can I prevent CPAP mask leaks?
Mask leaks can be caused due to various reasons including poor mask fit, high air pressure, sleeping position, mouth breathing and more. The following are some measures that can be taken to prevent CPAP mask leaks:
1. Clean your CPAP mask
Cleaning your CPAP mask may help with mask leaks. Make sure you are cleaning your mask with warm soapy water regularly, at least once a week, which will help prevent seal breakage due to skin oil and dirt. More details on cleaning your CPAP mask and machine can be found here.
2. Purchase a chin strap
3. Change your CPAP mask
Another possible cause of mask leakage could be improper CPAP mask fit. If this is the case, we highly recommend switching to a CPAP mask that better suits your facial structure. Prior to purchase, make sure to try on the mask and seek assistance from your doctor to ensure you select the best-fitting mask for your needs.View CPAP Direct's range of masks here.
